As far as high-maintenance produce goes, Urtica dioica are actually quite amenable in the kitchen. Yes, they’ll give you pins and needles if you touch them, but compared to other prima donna produce delicacies, nettles require very little of the most annoying sort of attention: time.

I write about Seattle and travel for Sunset magazine, which unfortunately doesn’t publish everything online. But here’s one on the perfect day trip in Boise, my hometown.

I write the “Cooking Fresh” recipe column for edibleSEATTLE. Check out the online recipe file for a few favorites.

I contribute nutritious recipes and stories about lupus to Arthritis Today magazine on a regular basis.

My work has also appeared in The Boston Globe, Seattle Weekly, Seattle magazine, Seattle Homes & Lifestyles, The Cape Cod Times, Cape Cod Magazine, and on Saveur.com. I also develop recipes for grocery stores and corporate clients, and have tested recipes for many cookbooks.

Course, you’ll find my favorite writing right here, on Hogwash. The most fun I’ve ever had writing? Has to be my story on Alinea, the famed Chicago restaurant, which was included in Best Food Writing 2008.
